Please know that Riot will NEVER ask for your password, nor reach out to you via Discord or text message with a link to apply.
For VALORANT and TFT creators, it’ll be the first introduction of unique benefits, partner perks, and long-term program support. But, years ago, we paused new applications as we figured out the next evolution of our Partner Program–one that can help support incredible creators across our growing list of games. It’s taken some time but we’re looking forward to taking the first step towards that new system with a series of beta-test programs for League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics, and VALORANT. League of Legends (LoL), commonly referred to as League, is a multiplayer online battle arena video game developed and published by Riot Games. Inspired by Defense of the Ancients, a custom map for Warcraft III, Riot’s founders sought to develop a stand-alone game in the same genre.
The First Step Towards New Partner Programs for Creators
In the game’s main mode, Summoner’s Rift, two teams of five players battle in player-versus-player combat. Each of the ten players controls a character, known as a “champion”, with unique abilities and differing styles of play. During a match, champions become more powerful by collecting experience points, earning gold, and purchasing items to defeat the opposing team. Teams defend their base and win by pushing towards the enemy base and destroying a large structure located within it, the “Nexus”.

Being in beta allows us to set the right expectation that some of these perks and programs are experimental and almost certain to change in some way before we open the experience to a wider group. It also allows us to gather feedback from players and creators, so we evolve in the right ways to build the best experience possible. Once we move into an officially launched program, you can expect features to be more permanent and applications to be regularly reviewed. Some of those creators will not receive an invite to this new program as we’re placing a focus on bringing the people driving our communities forward every day. As part of the evolution for LPP, we evaluated existing perks and new ways for verified creators to engage with their community. Chroma giveaways are not part of the new set of benefits, but we hope that players and creators alike will enjoy what we’ve got cooking.
League of Legends has received generally positive reviews, which have highlighted its accessibility, character designs, and production value. The game’s long lifespan has resulted in a critical reappraisal, with reviews trending positively; it is widely considered one of the greatest video games ever made. However, negative and abusive in-game player behavior, criticized since the game’s early days, persists despite Riot’s attempts to fix the problem. In 2019, League regularly peaked at eight million concurrent players, and its popularity has led to tie-ins such as music, comic books, short stories, and the animated series Arcane. Its success has spawned several spin-off video games, including a mobile version, a digital collectible card game, and a turn-based role-playing game, among others.
Why is this test limited to certain creators? / Why wasn’t I invited?
Since its release in October 2009, League has been free-to-play and is monetized through purchasable character customization. While we’re bringing over a ton of our legacy partners, it’s been a long time since we’ve updated the creator list. In that time, some creators have moved away from League, changed their focus, or stopped making content altogether.
The League Partner Program you see today is an evolution of what you may have previously seen. The changes we’re making introduce new, improved benefits for creators, and help Riot support more creators without sacrificing quality. While we would like this test to be open to everyone, the Partner Program is still in development and smaller tests ensure it will be at its highest quality before it’s launched more broadly. These creators represent a variety of different regions and communities from around the globe which will allow us to properly test this feature across a wide range of audiences.
